And prior to starting this firm in 1992 was a Trial Attorney with the Department of Justice tax division in Washington where basically I traveled throughout the country and tried big federal tax cases in U.S. district courts. Before that I was a Navy JAG officer.

My experience at the Department of Justice has been incredibly valuable for all of my years in private practice. And that experience has basically given me an insider’s view and understanding of how policy is made at the IRS and the Department of Justice, how decisions are made at both agencies, and it’s been of incredible value to my clients over the years.

In any tax litigation case, the key is early intervention. These sorts of cases can take on a life of their own where they drain the client potentially of their time and their energy, their money. And it’s important to get involved early, really getting just a thorough understanding of what the client’s objectives are and resolve it as quickly and as favorably as possible for the client.
