LAWRENCE BROWN: Criminal tax work is a very unique niche that demands a high level of competence with the technical areas of the tax law and with criminal defense.

Martindale-Hubbell lists me as a preeminent attorney in the area of tax law. Prior to founding this firm I was a Trial Attorney with the Department of Justice tax division. And one of my jobs was to provide the final layer of review for criminal tax cases.

That experience has given me tremendous insight into how decisions, either to prosecute or not prosecute are made. Before a criminal tax case even makes its way into a federal court it must survive a number of review levels at both the IRS and the Department of Justice.

My goal for every one of my clients is to get the case dismissed before it ever reaches a federal court. Obviously that can’t be accomplished in every case, but we seek to resolve the matter as favorably as possible.

And the earlier we get involved in a case, the greater the likelihood that we can minimize the collateral damage to my client’s business, practice or reputation.
